Research Assistant Position in Franklin, Maine
The University of Maine invites applications for a professional position of Research Assistant, at the Center for Cooperative Aquaculture Research, located in Franklin, Maine. Responsibilities include care and feeding of various aquatic animals and plants including freshwater and marine fish, polychaetes, echinoderms and macro algae, monitoring aquatic animal health and routine monitoring of water quality parameters and the production of live fish foods. The Research Assistant will also be required to demonstrate some aquaculture techniques and laboratory techniques. A BS degree in Biology, Marine Sciences or equivalent is preferred. Experience in the aquaculture industry is an advantage. Position involves some travel, normally requiring a valid Maine driver’s license. Pre-employment physical and driver's background check are required and applicant must be eligible to work in the United States. This full-time, fiscal year position offers a salary of $25,316 to $42,278 depending on experience and qualifications. Renewal is contingent on ongoing funding and job performance. Virginia Aquaculture Production/Marketing Manager Wanted
The Virginia Aqua-farmers Network, LLC (VAN) is an aquaculture cooperative that assists its member-owners in the production and marketing of fish and other aquaculture products in Southside Virginia. The VAN presently consists of 22 member-owners who primarily produce channel catfish, freshwater prawn, rainbow trout, and hybrid striped bass.
The VAN is looking for an energetic person to coordinate aquaculture production and marketing for its numerous growers. An understanding of basic aquaculture production is important, and demonstrated aquaculture product marketing experience is a requirement. Strong people and organizational skills are a necessity, as is the ability to work independently and be self-motivated. Furthermore, basic office computer and software skills such as Excel and word processing are required. Candidates must be willing to work a flexible schedule, and operate in a somewhat “field-office” type environment.
Specifically, the VAN Production/Marketing Manager will:
Initially, this is an independent contract position with an annual compensation of $50,000.00 and is funded through December 31, 2009. As an independent contractor, all appropriate work-related travel expenses will be reimbursed. It is anticipated that with successful VAN expansion, this contractual position will be converted to a full-time VAN position with salary and benefits.

Previous experience working with fish.
The ability to adapt to changing work environment, and be able to work some weekends and holidays.

Description:
The Zebrafish Core Facility has an opening for an Assistant to support operations of the Aquatics Facility.
Responsibilities include maintenance of the zebrafish life support systems, preparation of the food and fish feeding, monitoring water quality and fish health, cleaning and sanitizing equipment and facilities, data recording. In addition the candidate will have an excellent communication skills and ability to effectively work in a team setting and interact with Facility Users. Working knowledge of fish biology, water chemistry and genetics are preferable.
